This custom designed robotic shot peener is commissioned to peen aircraft gears in a high production environment, and due to the variety of gear types, the system has two methods of fixturing the gears.
Several gears can be loaded on the parallel rollers where the external surfaces are peened with high accuracy and repeatability. Larger gears or gears that require ID peening are fixture on the vertical spindle and peened while rotating. A second set of rollers and spindle are provided so the operator can load and unload product while the peening process is active. An industrial robot controls the motion of the nozzle. The media flow and compressed air pressure are closed-loop controlled for process repeatability. Our PRIMS Pro computerized process control provides for complete datalogging and archiving of key process parameter as well as tracking preventative maintenance items.
