Robotic Peening Machine for Aircraft Engine Shafts

This machine is used to shot peen aircraft engine components, particularly engine shafts. The machine was designed with a cart system that enables the operator to quickly exchange the completed part with the next, fixtured part. Nozzles and lances are manipulated by an ABB IRB 4600 articulated arm robot that is inverted and mounted to the cabinet ceiling. The reclaim and blast supports two sizes of steel media and one size of glass peening media. The dust collection unit includes a special flameless explosion vent. The system has an integrated 2D vision system for part and fixture identification and is used to locate oil holes on the outside diameter of shafts. The part is automatically positioned for the lance peening process. Shafts up to 2.5M in length can be manipulated on the part carts.
